In this article, “Internet Tracking
brings privacy concerns ‘, says that many internet users do not realize that
they are being tracked online. Tracking
is” the collection and correlation of users activities online, over time and
across uncommonly branded Web sites, for any purpose other than fraud
prevention or compliance with law enforcement requests’, according to the
Center of Democracy and Technology. For
example you could be surfing the web about a particular subject on one website
and then get an advertisement of what you just searched on another website that
you go to. All the while we are doing
this the tracker builds up our profile by being able to get our zip code, sex,
income, marital status, income, home ownership ect. As we are being tracked
through our everyday web surfing we are a target to many advertisers wanting us
to buy their product just because we were searching for it. The white House and President Obama released
a Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights which
will give us consumers guidance as to what to expect from people who handle our
personal information, and set opportunities for those companies who use
personal data.
I would probably use the new Do Not Track app for my customers so that
they are protected from being tracked from third parties or any other person or
thing out there that may track them online
however I really do not think that anything can protect us from this
potential threat.
